Frequently Asked Questions
We appreciate that before you contract with any building company you will have a lot of questions.
Many of your questions will be very specific to your project of course. But some of the questions you want answers to will be the same questions that most of our potential customers ask.
To try and assist you in your decision making process (and perhaps there are a few questions here here you hadn’t already thought of), we have listed and provided the answers to some of the more common questions asked.
Q) Do we need Building Regulations and/or Planning Permission?
A)
- You generally need building regulations for almost anything structural that you add to your home. Your local building control officer needs to know that the work is being carried out safely and competently and to the standard required.
- You will need planning permission to extend your property whether it be brick/block extensions to your dwelling, a conservatory, dorma windows or attic conversions with dorma windows. There are some grey areas but a phone call to your local council will quickly clear them up.
Q) How should we choose a builder?
A) Recommendations are usually a good safe way and generally a builder who is Federation of Master Builder (F.M.B) registered will be a helpful and professional builder. We would say always get three or even four quotations and make sure you have written copies of works to be carried out for your money.
Q) I am considering having an extension done, where do I start?
A) We will gladly recommend an F.M.B. registered architect who will draw up plans and will submit them for you, sorting out regulations and planning permission to the local authority.
