Use Google Local Maps to promote your business Free of charge

You may have noticed something when searching on Google lately. Within the search results and usually at the top are Google’s Local business and Maps results. So if your business is included here you may get to the top of Google.

So how much does it cost you ask? Well astoundingly, it’s totally free! When you consider that a listing on Yell.com is over £300 then that is some offer.

So a quick, easy and free way to get your business listed on Google is Google Maps. They offer any local business the opportunity to rank on it’s search pages with no pay per click costs or search engine optimisation services. Of course we see it as an addition to SEO rather than a replacement.

I did a quick search for dog breeding in Essex and the Google Maps listings are in the best position possible with all other results having to fight for position underneath.

 

 

 

 

So how do you get listed? Well very easily, you will need a Google account though which is a simple sign up procedure. Sign up here then add your business listing. It may already be listed in which case you can claim it. Just enter all your companies details, address, telephone, opening hours, payment terms and you can even add a picture or video.

When it comes to categories associated with your business, remember this is what the search engine will present your business for. So you may want to enter a few. e.g Florist, flower shop, bouquets etc.

You will then need to verify your listing. You can use mail, text or phone. I went for the phone because it was instant and just had to enter a PIN number on the screen.

Then your done. Just wait a couple of days and you could be sitting at the top of Google for free.

But get in quick, who knows when Google will start charging.
