1. You must be commited. SEO is a continuing process. Search engines change the rules regulalry and your tactics need to change accordingly. Even though you are on page 1 of Google right now, everyone else wants to be there too.

2. Have a little patience. SEO does not always happen quickly. It can take months before you see any noticable improvements depending on how stiff the competition is.

3. Do research into your SEO company. If they are so good at optimising then get some proof. Find out what exactly they do to make sure it’s legit. The last thing you need is being blacklisted so do some probing.

4. Get your web designer to install Google analytics onto your website so you can see who your visitors are and where they come from. You can also check on your progress using this great service which is free of charge.

5. Make sure your site is full of good content. If it is one of the best in your field then it will be on page 1 in no time. Search engines absolutely love lots of written content. So make sure it is interesting.

6. Make sure you have a sitemap submitted to Google. With a sitemap in place your site will get crawled regulalry by the search engines and it helps them to follow all links including any new content.

7. Make sure that the titles and URL’s of your website are using the keywords that you want to be listed for. If your a company called tiddles that sell cat food. Then make sure you have pages such as tiddles.com/catfood. If you want to seperate the words then use hyphens not underscores.

9. Make sure every page of your site has a unique and relevant title and meta description. The title is very impoprtant and influences where you will appear in the search engines.

10. Interlink from one page to another on your site by hyperlinking keywords. For example if i want to talk about seo then i make sure that i am linking back to my seo page. You would be amazed how many people use the text click here to link to other pages.

11. Submit your site to local directories and other trusted websites such as yell.com and Best of the web etc. Try to get links to your site from customers or other authority sites within your industry sector.

12. Use press releases services. By having a press release written and submitted you will appear on many news websites and can create a buzz about your company. Distributing a press releases is a very effective link building tactic.

13. Get blog posting. Add a blog to your site or start it as a seperate website. There is always someone at your company who can post daily some news, interesting developments or general ramblings about your business and search engines love new content. Your main website will also get plenty of links back from your blog.

14. Get listed on Google local maps search. You may find yourself on Googles front page for five minutes work. And it is currently free.

15. Use Article sites, Web 2.0, and bookmarking sites to promote your business. Each one lets you leave a backlink to your website and we all know the search engines love backlinks.
