Its a well known fact that the more links you have to your website, the better your search engine rankings will be. But many people dont realise that they have the most relevant authority website right in front of them – their own website pages. 1. Try and link to the most important pages on your website from other pages on your website. For example, have a menu that shows on every page that links to all your important pages – home, sitemap, services etc.

2. When linking from other pages try and use keywords in the text links to other pages. This tells the search engines what your pages are about. So for example show the text link as ’seo services’ rather than ‘click here’

3. When linking to other pages, dont just use a /pagename.html as the link but use the full url eg. http://www.yoursite.com/page.html this way the search engines will rank the whole url when they spider your website.

4. Try to reduce all outbound links to around 10 or less.

5. Use contextual links within your website content, and the higher up the page your link is the better as links higher in the page are known to carry more weight in search engines as opposed to stuck in the footer.

6. If you are using graphical, Java Script or Flash based navigation and link buttons, then create text links on the bottom of all your pages.

7. Hone the focus of the page – Make sure your main keyword appears at least 2-4 times on the page and once in the h1 and a slight variation in an H2 tag.
