Guide for getting your business listed on Business directories and Local Search Engines

After my previous post about getting your business website listed on Google local and maps, i have found a few more places to add your website links.

Now remember that search engines love and place great importance on backlinks that come from authoritive and well respected sites. It is great for the seo of your website. So getting your business listed on sites such as Google, Yahoo, Yell, Touchlocal and others will help with your search engine rankings and also bring more targetted traffic.

Just think about it, the people who visit your website will have searched for the service that you offer in the area that you are in! Therefore you will be getting highly motivated people looking at your site. So make sure it screams out to them to use your services.

So onto the websites that let you input your details for free. They should all take around 5 minutes or so to complete, which is well worth the effort.

Google Local
We have already covered this one in a previous post, but it is a great start to add your business website. When you add your listing to Google Local your business will appear on both the maps and company listings that appear usually at the top of page 1 on Google search.

Yahoo Local
The Yahoo answer to Google’s local business directory – The information appears on many different websites and apps such as iPhone browsers etc. So get listed here and appear in lots of places.

Businessmagnet.co.uk
Businessmagnet is one of the most comprehensive Business to Business Directories in the UK.

To get added to their directory go to the signup page After checking that your company is not already listed, fillin your details and your good to go.

Applegate
Applegate is a business listing service usually appearing on the first search page of Google.

To add your site go here:- www.applegate.co.uk- then use the search box to find your company as it may already be listed. If it is then find the ‘is this your company’ link which is near the the bottom of the page. If it is not listed then use the Add/Edit information link to get yourself listed.

Touch Local
Another very well know business listing service that appears in the search engine results with over 2.1 million unique visitors every month and offering online marketing tools.

To add your site go here:- www.touchlocal.com and do a search for your company and click the ‘is this your business’ link. If not then submit your business here

Best of
The Best of websites are a franchise with a different website for each major town.

To get listed find the nearest town to you at their town list. Click on the town and look for the ‘contact us’ page and then click Join.

Ikarma.com
You set up a profile on this site including a link and information about your business which gets added to Google and your customers are able to rate your services.

Free Index
A free listing site with options to upgrade your listing online. Worth asking people to review your business as it raises your profile higher up in their search results.

Thomson Local
Thomson is a leading Local directory publisher in the UK. So why arent you listed yet?

The famous Yellow pages online website which is a first choice for many customers. They have a free listing option but the Free listing doesn’t include a web link, so just use your URL instead of business name e.g. sksservices.co.uk

Scoot is owned by ITV and offers a free listing for your business. Helping you increase your online presence it is free, easy and secure.

Local business directory with over 2 million UK businesses listed. Businesses are listed according to type and location.

Finding other business directories

If that isnt enough for you. There are plenty more business directories you can submit your website to. Just go to Google and type in the following:- < Your Town name> Business Directory and you will find plenty in the search results.

The only downside to listing on some of these sites is that you will get a follow up sales call tempting you to upgrade your listing to a paid type. But for backlinks we do not need this so just inform them – thanks but no thanks.
