Now every website has to be judged on its own merits before i devise a linking plan, however lets assume your website has the correct onsite seo work done and your languishing on page four or five. Some general advice would be to get some backlinks to your website.

Well for general advice then..

* Try not to get too many spammy links. By this i mean links that can be posted easily and without moderation. Your links will sit on the same page as Viagra pills and gambling/porn sites. Spend a little more effort working on link building

* Contact trusted, authority sites. You may not be able to get a link from thebbc.co.uk, cnn.com etc. But how about finding the website that do have a link from these trusted sites and ask them to link to you. One link away is great, two is good and so on.

* If your website has mainly 1 type of links (directories for example) then vary it a little A diverse link profile is a much more effective one. Use video and articles and press releases etc.

So is SEO Dying?

No way, and it never will. Search engines will always want top quality and relevant results in their rankings and will always measure the top sites by a variety of factors. If search engines were losing their power then you can bet that Microsoft would not have poured so much money into Bing. However, SEO will evolve as the searcher evolves. The introduction of universal search resulted in some changes, and created new opportunities for SEO companies.

I was amazed when i first came across a company complaining about rip off seo, that they not only paid £150 every month, but received no report – just an email once a month asking for more cash!

Before commiting to any Seo Services try to vet the company and make sure they are not out to rip you off:

Does your seo company have a strong client base and a number of testimonials?

What seo results have they produced, and can they prove it?

It is quite easy to check out, just email some of their customers and check they were really satisfied.

Some seo companies dont go down the route of natural organic methods, some companies use blackhat methods or just put some of your fee into pay per click. This of course is no use to you and you might as well cut out the middle man and do it yourself if ppc is what you want.

Get Buzzing To Improve SEO

He said on the Bing Forum Community:- “If your site pages have good content, submit them to buzz and digg. Both have a high chance of getting your page indexed.”

This post was then mysteriously removed and replaced with a more general answer that asked users to read up on some Bing postings. However, we got the juicy info before it was erased. So now you know what to do.  The idea makes sense as search engines look to see whats popular by checking out the social networking sites like Yahoo Buzz and Digg. Firstly the quality of the link. If you have a link coming from a web directory then its ok, a few hundred of them may make a slight difference to your rankings. A link from a spammy site full of links to drugs and viagra products will be worth nothing. A link from an article directory can be good, but depends which aticle site you link from.
