Some of you who have been around for a while may have heard of LSI or latent semantic indexing. Search engines have a method for sorting websites into the correct category and ranking for the right search terms. LSI is one way they achieve this aim, and if you know how to use it, then it can improve your websites position in the serps.

lsi for seo

So in a nutshell, latent semantic indexing is how the search engines associate words that are all similar or related to a certain topic. As an example, your website may be about plumbing. Google knows that the page should also contain related words, such as boilers, leaks, bathrooms, 24 hour callout, repair leaks etc.

This lets the search engines know what your subject is and how to organise the search terms. It knows that all the related words are refering to plumbing matters and not shopping or anything else. Once you have a list of related words and phrases, put them on pages of your website.

To find these related words pop over to the Google keyword tool and find all the related words the search engine finds relevant to the term. Then just use the words and phrases from your list to write or rewrite your content.

So instead of using traditional keyword percentages and density, use related phrases. Increasingly search engines are including LSI into search algorithms to evaluate your website pages better. And many experts now say that sites optimised for keywords can even rank lower as they are falsely over optimised.

Why have only the top position in Google, when you can have position 1 and 2 by using some simple seo practises.

You may have noticed whilst using search engines that some websites appear twice with the second listing indented slightly. This is not Google having a funny turn, it is an example of the website owner using a quite simple trick that can have your site listed twice for the same search term.

A website showing twice in the search engines is commonly known as an indents or double listing. And surprisingly they can be very easy to achieve and i’ll tell you how.

You need to first have a website page already indexed and ranking. You then need this page linking to a second relevant page that links back to the first.

Both pages must have your keyword in its title. Then link to page 2 from other pages of your website.

Use keywords in your blog posts and link those to page 2 also. Then get some links from external sites to your page 2 and pretty soon and depending on keyword competition, you should find your website sitting pretty in positions 1 and 2 in Google. And maybe get double the visitors to your site into the bargain. Check out our seo service

Your website title is one of the most important elements to look at when improving your websites seo rankings .

If you look at the html code in your website you will find at the beginning something called meta tags. And in those tags will be your website page title. It looks something like this:-

<title>Website design and seo in Essex web design video marketing</title>

A title is what you can usually read at the very top of the web browser when you are visiting a website. For example my title that you should be able to read now should say:-

‘Optimisation Your Website Page Tiles To Increase Search Engine Rankings | Web design and SEO Blog’

Now that tells you exactly what your getting on this page. It is descriptive and has the keywords SEO which is what this site is all about. An example of a bad title would be ‘SKS Services add a new feature to the site’ – No keywords, not very descriptive and nobody would ever do a search for that random mish mash.

So make sure that your Title is right by doing the following:-

Make sure that it is highly relevant to the page it is on

Dont make it as long as possible just to fill it with keywords. Try to make it about 5 to 12 words in length and under the 70 character limit.

It needs to be unique. Make sure no other pages on your site are identical.

Any keywords your using. Use in the starting part of the sentence.

If you want your company name in the title, then put it at the end. It has no relevance to what people are searching for.

By making good use of your Title combined with good content on the page will guarantee you good search engine placement.

Amazing SEO Fact – Guess what around 98% of small businesses website titles that begins with…?

The business name.

And its a BIG no no to do this. Your website title is all about your keywords and search terms. You can even put in your location. But if you must put your business name in, then put it at the end.

As an example of how a website should be designed and how our seo (search engine optimisation) techniques work take a look at a new website we put together in May of this year.

The domain name ksprints.co.uk was registered on 28th April 2009 and the website was constructed over the course of the next week.

Todays date of this post is 28th May 2009 and looking at the site in question it has a pagerank of 2 on the main home page and a pagerank of 1 on the blog page. So what does this tell us. Well for a start a blog is a very good idea as every single post has been indexed by Google and will appear in its search engine for different search terms (keywords).

It also shows that by structuring the site correctly, having a sitemap, an updated blog plus of course a few more ingredients and some targetted backlinks you can get a website on page 1 of Google pretty quickly.

It is currently on the first page of the search engines for a wide variety of search terms including canvas prints essex as well as many others.

There are websites that are years old that have no pagerank and no search engine traffic. If you want your business to get noticed then get in touch.

And before using any other seo services, please make sure they have plenty of examples of their work and can show you real proof of getting you traffic, otherwise save your cash.
